SALEM
- Environmentally-aware Salem State College students Monday collected a
special Valentine's Day gift to U.S. Rep. John F. Tierney in thanks for
his stance against global warming.
The students, many of the
members of the college's Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group
(MAS-SPIRG) chapter, gathered 206 homemade holiday cards, each signed
by students who acknowledge that the congressman is "too cool for
global warming." The cards will be fashioned into a single heart-shaped
valentine and delivered to the congressman's Peabody office next week.
According
to MASSPIRG spokeswoman Cindy Sous, the cards note Tierney for
supporting investments in global warming solutions in the House
economic recovery package.
The students are now asking Tierney
to make sure the final version of the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act contains strong provisions for supporting solutions
that will cut global warming pollution and create thousands of jobs,
including investing in public transportation, renewable energy
development and energy efficiency projects, Sous said.
