Marion - Sen.
Marc R. Pacheco, D-Taunton, was named a 2009 Climate Champion by the
Massachusetts Student Public Interest Research Group for his work at
the State House to pass legislation – and also for his efforts to
encourage student activism – to combat climate change.
Pacheco received the award today along with Rep. Barney Frank and
Dr. Robert Ballard, president of the Institute for Exploration in
Mystic, Conn. The three were featured speakers on a Global Warming
Solutions Panel hosted by MassPIRG students at UMass-Dartmouth.
“I encourage civic engagement to
reach our climate goals, which include a significant reduction in our
carbon footprint,” Pacheco said. “No one can do it alone. Everyone
needs to get involved, and students, with their energy and committment,
are a big part of that effort.”
